Pool Decks

A pool surround that's comfortable under bare feet and safe when it's wet.

A paved pool deck beside a backyard swimming pool

Around a pool, three things matter more than looks: grip when wet, how hot the surface gets, and where the water goes. We plan for all three before choosing a finish.

We build new pool decks and replace tired ones, in decking boards or pavers depending on your pool and yard. For raised or above-ground pools, a framed deck gives you a proper place to sit and a safe way in and out.

Tell us how your family uses the pool: young children, lap swimming, entertaining. It changes where we put steps, gates and shade.

    We visit and measure

We look at the space, the sun, the slope and how you want to use it, then talk through materials and layout with you.

  3. 3

You get a clear written quote

Every item and its price is listed. You can read it, download it and approve it online from your phone.

  4. 4

We build, then walk it with you

We keep the site tidy while we work. When it's finished we walk the whole job with you before we call it done.

Frequently asked questions

Pool Decks: what people ask.

The ones that stay cooler under bare feet: light-colored pavers, natural stone such as travertine, cool-deck coatings over concrete, and light-colored composite made to absorb less heat. Dark concrete and dark boards get much hotter.

Travertine and other natural stone pavers are popular because they stay cooler and have natural grip. Composite works well for raised decks beside the pool. We bring samples so you can compare how each one feels in direct sun before you choose.

Usually two to four weeks, depending on the size, the shape and the material. That covers preparing the site, the base or framing, laying the surface and cleaning up. Removing an old deck first adds time. We give you a more exact schedule once the design is settled.

Often, particularly if the project changes the structure, alters drainage or comes close to property lines. Raised decks beside a pool follow the same rules as any other deck. Resurfacing an existing slab frequently does not need one.

We check with your city before starting so the project is compliant from the beginning.

Start with the surface. Textured finishes such as brushed concrete, natural stone with a non-slip finish and composite boards with added grip all hold wet feet better than smooth surfaces.

For an existing deck, a non-slip sealer or a textured coating can make a real difference without replacing it. Good drainage matters too, because standing water and algae are what make a deck slick.

Yes. The pool edge, coping and equipment are protected while the old surface comes out, and debris is kept out of the water. The new levels are set so water drains away from the pool and the house.

Yes. Arizona and its cities have pool barrier requirements covering fence height, gaps and self-closing gates. If your project touches the fence, a gate or a raised deck that could give access to the pool, we check what applies at your address.
