Pergola Construction
Shade where you need it, so the patio or deck gets used all year.

In the Phoenix area, shade decides whether an outdoor space gets used. A pergola gives you filtered shade and airflow, defines a seating or dining area, and makes a plain patio feel finished.
We design and build pergolas in wood and low-maintenance materials, freestanding or attached to the house, over a new deck or an existing patio. Slat spacing and direction are set by where the sun is at the times you'll be out there.
If you'd like fans, lighting or a solid cover over part of it, tell us at the start so posts and beams are sized for it.

Frequently asked questions
Pergola Construction: what people ask.
Usually three to ten days on site. Smaller pergolas with simple designs go up quickly. Larger ones, attached pergolas and designs with custom details take longer. Any permit review happens before building starts.
It depends on the size, the height and whether it attaches to the house. Small freestanding pergolas are often exempt. One that is attached to your home, or goes over your city's size limits, usually needs a permit.
Rules differ between cities and change over time, so we check the current requirements for your address and help with the application if one is needed.
Ones that stand up to strong sun and heat. Cedar and redwood resist rot and insects naturally and look warm and traditional; they need a UV-protecting finish every couple of years. Aluminum and composite materials resist UV well and need very little maintenance.
We go through how long each lasts, how it looks and how it performs in desert sun, so you can choose what suits your yard.
It depends on the size, the design and the material. A small, basic pergola starts at a few thousand dollars. Larger structures, premium materials and features such as lighting, fans or a solid roof section cost more.
After a free design visit we give you a detailed written quote, so you know the price before any work starts.
That is a design choice. Slat size, spacing and direction decide whether you get light dappled shade or much heavier cover. We set them according to where the sun is at the times you will be outside. A retractable canopy, shade fabric or a solid section can be added where you want full shade, such as over a dining table.
It is designed to. Footings, post size and connections are chosen with wind in mind, and an attached pergola is fixed into the structure of the house rather than just the trim. That is one of the main differences between a properly built pergola and a lightweight kit.
