Frequently asked questions

Good to know before you start.

Yes. We visit, measure, talk through your options and send a written, itemized quote at no cost and with no obligation. You can read it, download it and approve it online when you are ready.

Composite and Trex need the least upkeep. They do not splinter, rot or need staining, and modern boards hold their color well. Among woods, dense hardwoods such as ipe last longest, cedar and redwood resist rot and insects naturally, and pressure-treated lumber is the most affordable.

Any wood deck here needs regular sealing to survive the UV. We go through the pros and cons of each material for your yard and budget during the visit.

Building usually takes between one and four weeks, depending on the size and complexity. Small, simple decks are quicker; large or multi-level decks with custom features take longer. That covers everything from preparing the site to the final walkthrough.

Design, permit review and material delivery come before building and can add several weeks, so it pays to start planning early. We give you an expected schedule with your quote.

In most cases, yes, particularly if the deck is attached to your home, is raised more than about 30 inches off the ground or has a roof. Permits make sure the deck meets the building code for safety and structural strength.

Rules differ between Phoenix, Chandler, Mesa and the other cities, and many HOAs have their own approval. We check what applies at your address before work starts, which avoids problems later, including when you sell.

Sweep it weekly so dust and grit do not build up, and wash it with mild soap and water a few times a year. For wood, apply a good UV-resistant sealer or stain every one to three years, depending on the product and how much sun the deck gets. That protects it from fading and cracking.

Composite needs only the cleaning. Either way, a quick check of railings and fasteners each spring catches small problems early.

Yes. Pergolas, gazebos and solid covers can be built into the design, and we can plan for retractable awnings or shade sails. Designing shade in from the start gives you a comfortable space you can use all year, even when temperatures are very high, and it protects the deck too.
