The Best Time of Year to Build a Deck in Phoenix
· 2 min read · Deck Builders LLC

Most of the country stops building decks in winter. Here it is the other way round. Summer is the hard season, and the best months are the ones people elsewhere spend indoors.
Season by season
- Fall (October–November): The best window. Temperatures drop, the air is dry, concrete cures properly and crews work full days. To build in fall, start planning in late summer.
- Winter (December–February): Mild, sunny and very workable. A popular time, because the deck is ready for spring.
- Spring (March–May): Excellent weather and the busiest season. Book early.
- Summer (June–September): Possible, but harder. Concrete dries too fast in extreme heat, crews work shorter hours for safety, and afternoon storms interrupt. Expect a longer schedule.
Weather that stops work
Rain is rare but heavy when it comes, and muddy ground is no place to dig footings. Monsoon wind makes it unsafe to stand up tall posts and long beams. A dust storm will ruin fresh stain or paint in minutes. A good builder watches the forecast and will not start a critical step right before a storm.
Protecting the deck year-round
- Shade: Less direct sun means less fading and cooler boards.
- Regular cleaning: Sweep often and wash with mild soap a few times a year. Avoid harsh chemicals, especially on composite.
- Sealing wood: Every one to three years, depending on the product and exposure.
- A twice-yearly look: Check for loose fasteners, splinters and any sign of termites.
- Drainage: Keep sprinklers and pool splash from pooling against posts and framing.
